We at EOA are architects but also artists, designers, tango dancers, woodworkers, rock climbers, yogis, foodies, cyclists, and bird watchers. We have long embraced the fact that our work is influenced by things outside the world of architecture. The ribbed hull of a wooden boat or the elaborate folds of a Dior dress can motivate the structure of a building. The slithering quality of rising smoke can inspire the flow of spaces on a floor plan. Here we will share some of the ideas and images that are, just like us, not strictly architecture, but that inspire and amaze us nonetheless. A dynamic young conductor, a photographer who is examining the world in a unique way, or simply a beautiful spoon; nothing is off limits.

Wish List: Madeline Weinrib Rugs

Left: White and Black Endless; Right: Goldenrod Song

Madeline Weinrib, a designer of absolutely beautiful carpets, fabrics and accessories, has just opened a new showroom at 126 Fifth Avenue. Her gorgeous rugs - painterly combinations of color, pattern and texture - have topped our wishlist for a while now. She's especially good at referencing traditional themes to create designs that somehow look entirely modern. On our recent trip to India we noticed colors and motifs similar to those in Weinrib's work. We're especially obsessed with the combination of bright orange and pink that we saw everywhere in India and we're glad she is too.

Preview: Anthropologie Little Rock

Robin is currently down in Tornado Alley with the immensely-talented photographer Robert Reck on a mission to capture images of our Little Rock, Tulsa, and Oklahoma City Anthropologie stores. Robert did beautiful justice to our Huntsville and Albuquerque designs and we can’t wait to see what he comes up with this time. In the meantime, here’s a sneak peek at the entry of the Little Rock store, as captured by an iPhone. You see why we desperately need a professional photographer!

Switch it up

The light switch often is our first and last point of contact with the spaces we design. It's ubiquitous, meaningful and an affordable design opportunity. Here are a few that inspire us.
